Solar 101 presentation

Come for a Solar 101 briefing where you can learn how home solar power systems work and how much they cost. Presentations are roughly 15 minutes, starting on the hour.

Sample Solar Home

Learn about how a Garland homeowner went solar and how changes were made to improve energy efficiency. Visit the site 1.3 miles away to observe the sample solar house and learn about native plant landscaping.

Garland Power and Light

GP&L representatives will present energy saving programs and ideas to save energy, save money and reduce emissions.

Electric Vehicles (EV)

Hear from a Nissan Leaf owner on why he went electric and EV’s future. Telsa and Leaf vehicles and owners will be outside.

Learning Center Comments

The learning center is located in the Health Science and Technology (HST) wing of the North Garland High School campus. NGHS is the STEM school in GISD and includes Math Science and Technology (MST) endorsements for students in the following fields:

  • Architecture
  • Biomedical Science
  • Computer Science
  • Engineering
  • Medical
  • Multimedia
  • Multimedia Broadcast
  • Telecommunication

The HST wing is the newest addition to the NGHS campus designed to improve facilities for all STEM programs. The wing includes unique faculties for students in the STEM fields. For example medical, students have access to classrooms, a mock nursing station, and a sample hospital room.

Also the NGHS robots team, part of the engineering department, will be avalaible to discuss their upcoming robotic project. Their BEST robotic theme contest this year is repairing downed power lines after storms and disasters and they will have a community outreach booth.
