As part of our commitment to sustainability, IKEA has installed a solar energy system atop the Dallas store. The 114,000-square-foot array consists of a 912-kW system, built with approximately 3,780 panels.

In 2017 we had 750,000 solar panels installed on IKEA buildings worldwide (which generated 124 GWh of renewable electricity), and 29 wind farms (which generated 2,264 GWh of renewable electricity). For more information see the 2017 Sustainability Summary Report.

Host Comments:

At IKEA, we want to have a positive impact on people and the planet. For many years we’ve focused on economizing resources and helping to create a better everyday life for people. And now we’ve made a big step forward. We’re going all-in with more sustainable cotton and LED lighting. From September 2015, all the cotton in our products will come from more sustainable sources. This is good news for you, farmers and the environment. At the same time, we’re switching to 100% LED, making this sustainable light source more affordable and beautiful. This bold move was announced in 2012 and IKEA is pleased it has met its commitment. Since 2013, IKEA U.S. customers have purchased 7.6 million LED bulbs, helping them collectively save nearly $3 billion in energy costs. These are just two of the ways we can help people all over the world live more sustainably. In 2017 we had 750,000 solar panels installed on IKEA buildings worldwide (which generated 124 GWh of renewable electricity), and 29 wind farms (which generated 2,264 GWh of renewable electricity). For more information see the 2017 Sustainability Summary Report. But we’re not done yet. We’re just warming up... We want to have a positive impact on the environment, and be part of the solution to climate change, which is why by 2020 we’re going to be 100% renewable – producing as much renewable energy as we consume using renewable sources, such as the wind and sun.
