The Titan Solar Car Club at Plano ISD Academy High School is dedicated to increasing awareness of alternative energy sources particularly in the field of innovation in transportation. This past summer the team participated in the High School Solar Car Challenge, a six day cross country event where strategy, planning and unique problem solving were key to success. The electric car was powered by hot-swappable batteries, charged using a solar panel array that traveled independent of the convoy. This student-led group learned not only how to build a road-worthy car themselves, but how to design the electrical system and get the most efficiency out of their solar panels. Plans for this upcoming year include enhancing our suspension system in addition to increasing efficiency through the integration of telemetry and potentially a solar tracking system. Community involvement has been key to our success, and we are always seeking connections and support our endeavor.
