Conserving energy benefits everyone by both saving money and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Our PV solar system was projected to cover 90% of our annual electric costs with a 10-year payback on a system expected to last at least 25 years. So far the system has exceeded that projection. Thanks to the ability to "bank" credits for energy surplus with Green Mountain, we had $0 electric bills March through June, and our July bill was only $35. Not bad for a 2200 sf 40-year-old house!
We also live by "reduction before generation," so we worked to reduce our energy usage first, then added solar generation. These measures reduced the size of the PV solar system needed.
